At a friends place recently, I saw a rogue orange and random lemon scattered on her kitchen bench. The iPhone got put down soon after and in a moment of genius I realised what great colours these are to brighten up a space (especially during summer Down Under). Check out some yellow, orange and green decorating inspiration:
Yellow is a great colour to accessorise with and plays nicely with white, black and grey hues. It evokes a sense of warmth and instantly cheers up a space. Think about using yellow crockery, cushions and artwork to bring a playfulness to your home. You could even go all out and paint your front door.
It has only been in recent months that I have come around to the idea or using orange, but it really does make a bold and bright colour statement. Unless you’re into drama (and want to go all out with a feature wall like the one above), I say you use orange outdoors in lanters or candle holders, indoors in cushions or even throws and vases. It’ll work well with grey, purple and light and dark woods, so don’t be afraid to experiment!
What’s not to love about green? It’s so calm and inviting for any room. I like it in the bedroom; it teams really well with natural wood and makes a space feel earthy and relaxed. Outdoors, use green with white pebbles and silver for a tranquil feel. Inside it’ll go with just about any other colour. I’ve used it in my home on a blue couch (breaking the blue-and-green-should-never-be-seen rule) and it worked really well.
Even if it’s not summer where you are, these citrus colours will work well anyway. Get a little daring and let the bright colour pops in!
