So I only recently realised I have a fair few bird ornaments about the place. I also realised I had named a few of them. Call it sick and twisted but it’s a reality. I’ve also snapped a lot of them in homewares stores. Am I following them or are they following me? Who knows. Check out my feathered collection…
This old chap above I picked up from The Reject Shop; it’s an Aussie discount store and I nabbed him for eight dollars. He sits on a stack of books beside a lamp. He’s an intellectual. I’ve named him Alfred. He’s such a bookworm.
Gertrude has been in the family for a few years. I got her from a homewares store many moons ago in Leichhardt. She has always sat on a windowsill looking out into the world. She is a guard bird of sorts but she’d fly away the first chance she got. Gerty is an old broad who can’t be tamed.
Cracks is named so because he has had a somewhat troubled life. He is on the straight and narrow now and lives on my coffee table atop a stack of coasters. That’s typical cracks; always coming out on top. He is very calm these days.
Hoot I got last year from Typo. He’s a bit of a weathered gent and he doesn’t mind a spot of red wine an a heated debate about the state of the world. He now takes residence on my partner’s desk; watching him play video games. I think it’s a midlife crisis.
Peace Dove adorns my Christmas tree each year. He is a beautiful and pure guy who doesn’t mind spending 11 of the 12 months in hiding. He kind of likes being in the closet for the most part.
I recently spotted these three birds at Shack in the Moore Park Supa Centa. They remind me of the Golden Girls; Dorothy, Rose and Blanche. I imagine they sit around regaling tales of their heyday. Aren’t they cute?
