Surely I am not the only one who goes to Spotlight (or any craft store) for no purpose other than to see what you can make with their current stock. Case in point – this brekkie in bed tray – which started off as plain, MDF-style wood and ended up looking rather cute!
In case you haven’t worked it out by now, I am not into five-day refurbs that cost a bomb, so this project required only paint, some fabric and some craft glue (it also helps if you have a muffin on-hand to help style the photo!).
As you can see above, the tray was a basic MDF-style tray; nothing flash or fancy and definitely kinda gross in colour. I grabbed some duck egg blue paint from Bunnings, craft glue and fabric from Spotlight and got to work on transforming this piece (it will take no longer than a few hours to complete – taking paint dry-time into account).
Because you’re going to cover the base of the tray in fabric, don’t waste your time painting that part of it. Simply cut your piece of fabric to size and glue it down using the fabric glue (it’s easy enough to rip the fabric off when you want to change it up).
That’s really all it takes. What do you think of the finished product? You can even vary this design and use it as a drinks tray for when you have friends over for cocktails.
I hope you like it. Let me know if you have a brekkie in bed tray and feel free to post pics on the life creative Facebook page!
