I know I say this every time I do a store tour, but Follow Store in Surry Hills really is my favourite one so far – for real! I wanted to have a movie moment just minutes into the experience and yell “charge it to my card and have it delivered”. I very well would have if I wasn’t concerned the transaction would decline. But really, there’s something special about Follow and it truly struck a chord with me. It’s a giftware paradise and I must now alert my friends; all future gifts will be coming from Follow.
As you can see above, stationery was first on the agenda. As I wandered in I realised that the store is deceptively large. From the outside it looks like a little nook, but once you get inside it’s like Alice falling down the rabbit hole in the most amazing way possible. The wares are displayed on some amazing vintage furniture (and you know I love me some vintage finds) and it just makes each piece come to life even more.
There’s a huge table in the middle of the store that’s home to some amazing pieces. The fluorescent-rimmed crochet nesting bowls above were particularly stunning, as were the too-cute eye pillows below. They, like so many other items, were lovingly wrapped up with twine and a little tag (currently obsessed with twine) and I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of heart in this store. I kind of wanted to jump on the table and roll around in the wares like Demi Moore did on the bed of cash in that bad ’90s film, Indecent Proposal.
Amazing printed tea towels adorned the middle table. So many so that there was no safe place to rest my eyes. I love a pop of colour like you wouldn’t believe, so their collection of hand-printed pieces was really something special. I was a big fan of the Andrea Smith one below because the pops of red are right up my alley and would work wonderfully in my kitchen and dining area.
Hopefully by now you realise that I have one foot in ‘crazy cat lady’ territory, having two cats of my own. It’s not how I imagined life would pan out, but it’s a reality. I’m living it, I’m loving it. So, with that in mind, it should come as no surprise that I now meet all cat ornaments with a resounding head tilt and a little ‘aww’. The piece to the left was no different. How cute is it!? Besides the fox and turtle softies you saw up top, this little kitty is number one on my list of must-haves.
They also stock very cute clothing for women (granted, not particularly my cup of tea), which gals really must check it out. They have some great vintage stuff that’s really worth the look!
Get a load of the baby clothing above on the mini in-store clothes line; I am drowning in a cuteness overload and I can’t get out! I was also incredibly fond of the plants to the left. I do admire anyone who can keep greenery alive (even my succulents aren’t surviving of late) and I am majorly crushin’ on the aqua rim of that plant pot. What a great way to introduce some colour to your pad without it being too overwhelming (if a large hue hit is not your thing).
Besides the bright chevron cushion by Bob Window in the background below, I do quite like the red basket. And below that, are you seeing the gorgeous fabric bunting? Can’t get enough!
So, it’s safe to say that Follow in Surry Hills is my new favourite love affair. It has more cushions that you can take in one hit, a mass of stationery and wrapping for lovers of all things paper, fabrics galore in the way of tea towels and the like plus oodles and oodles of decorator items like the horses below (which I want and need immediately), not to mention an abundance of clothing for gals and guys. Let me not forget the art they have in-store as well as a decent amount of decorative crockery.
The thing I love most about Follow is that they support local artists. The store is jam-packed with wares from over 50 independent Aussie designers, which means you get the added feel-good moment of supporting a local.
And if you’re not in Australia, thank fully there’s an online store (and they ship worldwide).
