Freedom and I have had a long friendship. I recall saving up across several paycheques as an 18 year old and going to Freedom to get my first real bedroom setting; an amazing bed, tallboy and two bedside tables combination. Years on (I won’t divulge exactly how many) I still gravitate toward this homewares haven for the very same reasons I did back then; phenomenal furniture with form, function and fun. On with the store tour…
What seems to be setting Freedom apart from the competition these days is that they aren’t following trends – they’re setting them. I’m constantly taken aback by their colour, quirk and creativity. They’re in a great place at the moment with soft furnishings and accessories. I’m head over heels for their cushions – in chevron, stripes and geometric shapes. But moreso, the use of colour is bold, daring and often a little unexpected. Case in point is the recent display of neon colours being splashed across cushions; to die for! Their glassware, vases and jugs even find a way to stay contemporary while giving a nod to traditional silhouettes. It’s a dreamy fusion indeed and makes for a glorious shopping experience!
A sofa should be the piece you splurge on as it’s going to be a constant in your home for years. Freedom clearly knows this because its cemented its place in the market as the destination for quality couches. I got my lounge suite there a few years back and their current range is tempting me to replace already! Bold colours are again ever-present, as well as some very welcome nods to past design eras. The armchairs were hands-down my favourite, some channelling retro lines, while others keep it classical and comfy. Let me know what your fave is as we take a look at a few below.
ABOVE: Retro chair with Essential Leather keeps things sleek and sophisticated (love the throw).
BELOW: Danish Wing Chair in Highlighter channels Scandi in the most welcome way!
ABOVE: Chevron Slipper Chair in Taupe is so on-trend right now it’s smitten with itself!
BELOW: I have this Astrid Chair in Dexter Lemongrass but the red and grey as just as smart
ABOVE: I’m in leather lover thanks to this Classic Wing Armchair (very dapper don’t you think?).
BELOW: I love the way the Atlas Sofa and Ottoman below is matched with the throw and cushion.
ABOVE: This Oliver Modular in red is one bold and brave beauty – a bit of a red hot mumma, right?
Of course it’s not all about the sofas at Freedom, as delightful as they are. I was also particularly fond of entertainer pieces. Mugs, serving utensils, plates and bowls played in both colourful and traditional territory, while standout items like this jumbo Paris Fob Watch clock in teal, would look fabulous with my industrial coffee table (it’s always important to have pieces that speak to one another).
I was also drawn to the outdoor entertaining pieces as well; the bowls below were lined with pink, white and lime green hues that really make the pieces pop. I would totally use these as key holders on an side table inside the front door at home.
For those of you who don’t naturally gravitate toward bright hues, never fear. There’s an entire range that keeps things calm and coastal across soft furnishings, crockery, candle holders and bathroom accessories. If you like neutral tones, the mosquito candle holders below are going to make your heart sing (or was that just me?). I am an absolute sucker for anything with a bird on it too, so the cushions below were clear standouts – and you know how obsessed I am with cushions! I’m not sure which I like more though – the Sandpiper or the Finch. What do you think?
Freedom stores across the country are having some fabulous sales on at the moment that – if you’re like me – will have you wanting to gut your place, leave nothing behind and start afresh (what fun!). Or, if you’re a calmer person and can control yourself, head in-store or check out the Freedom website for more.
