trending: say hello to yellow (and make it work)

Shot_20_tif_86532

I’ve been a big fan of a sunny yellow for quite some time (my business cards are splashed with this hue). Thank the decor gods above, then, that Spring is bringing it to all my fave stores and homewares mags, making it the undeniable colour of the moment. If you’re plugged in and ready to play with yellow (it would be criminal not to), all you have to do is introduce it into your home in the right way so it doesn’t offend your current furniture!

creative finds reloaded: my 10 fave discoveries

p1120280

1 | I went gaga for these washi tape candles from The Tealight Co earlier in the year. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the nicest ones and putting six glorious washi tape designs on tealights is a perfect example of this. The black snowflake tape was my fave back then and still is now. I got these through Superking Australia (and you can too).

You’ve heard me rave on before about how much I adore my sister from another mister, Emma Blomfield from Nest Designs (you can read my interview with her here). Well, now you can witness her interior design and styling genius when you attend one of her upcoming decorating workshops! They’re running in a number of locations across Australia and are sure to have you solving all your home decor dilemmas.

my homewares adventure in lovely lane cove

Screen Shot 2013-09-24 at 1.24.38 PM

I love nothing more than connecting with local Creatives, so I was beyond chuffed when In the Cove‘s Jacky Barker invited me for a tour of the most marvellous homewares stores Lane Cove has to offer. In the space of a few hours we managed to squeeze in many gasp-worthy moments across three great stores – each of which was uniquely different from the other!

celebrating my brother’s life through a custom-made piece of art

Screen Shot 2013-09-25 at 12.54.15 PM

I know it’s always sunshine and lollipops in TLC land, but I wanted to write a more serious post to share a special moment that happened to me this week, that really highlighted how the creative community can help one another through grief. The lovely Skye Tiernan from Little Pearl Designs sent an artwork my way that she had been working on for a month or so, that I asked her to create to celebrate the life of my brother David, who passed away in November last year.

must-have rugs: chevron, stripes and diamonds

20130913_TW_FabHabitat2087

Rugs are the new cushions if you ask me; they’re so affordable nowadays that you can swap them around at a moment’s notice when you tire of your old one (unlike when they swapped old Pippa for new Pippa on Home and Away – that was just too big a change for me to handle). The added bonus with smaller, lightweight rugs like the ones above is that you can layer them for a relaxed and casual vibe that still packs a visual punch (and you can score them at a discounted price – read on!)

score a half-price double pass to grand designs live

Screen Shot 2013-09-25 at 7.42.24 PM

I cannot for the life of me remember how or why I missed out on attending last years Grand Designs Live, but I do know that I was kicking myself for weeks after when I saw glorious pics of the event sprawled all over social media. That will not be happening this year – especially because I’ve scored myself (and you!) a half-price double pass to the event! No need for the double take Creatives – it’s for real!

the spray paint that’s going to change my life

P1140230

So I got invited to a media event today to take a look at Rust-Oleum‘s new range of spray paints, 2X Ultra Cover. Granted, I had not heard of Rust-Oleum before, so I was going in with a bit of a blank, Miss Teen type look on my face. Once I was at the event, though, and saw what I could do with these spray paints, I wanted to run through the place taking every colour available and yelling at security “Back off – I’m a blogger!!!!”.

my interview with creatives ashdown & bee

Screen Shot 2013-09-23 at 7.04.56 PM

I first discovered the work of Ashdown & Bee at the Freedom Summer Launch a few months back and was instantly drawn to their design aesthetic. Little did I know, bespoke signage for media events was just one of the services the Stanmore-based business offers; styling, event planning, visual merchandising and more are what this creative couple excels at. They were even kind enough to make me my very own TLC sign during the interview (cue the girly squeels!).

the go-to store for brit-inspired homewares

Screen Shot 2013-09-24 at 8.31.20 AM

For as long as I can remember I have loved everything about Britain. And no, it has nothing to do with that Union Jack dress Ginger Spice wore at the Brits that time (though I’m sure it helped). There is just something so wonderfully charming about British decor. Founder of SE10 Gallery, Sam Cannell, clearly shares my fondness for all things UK, because she’s opened a gorgeous online homewares store that celebrates it!
