trending: say hello to yellow (and make it work)

I’ve been a big fan of a sunny yellow for quite some time (my business cards are splashed with this hue). Thank the decor gods above, then, that Spring is bringing it to all my fave stores and homewares mags, making it the undeniable colour of the moment. If you’re plugged in and ready to play with yellow (it would be criminal not to), all you have to do is introduce it into your home in the right way so it doesn’t offend your current furniture!

Sort it out and make it work!

Yellow is a pretty versatile colour in that it bodes well for meshing with a variety of other tones. Your safest bet is to mix it with grey and white as in the picture above for a harmonious visual moment. Pairing it with brown tones – for those of you a little worried about colour – is another safe move.

If you’re already a fan of high-voltage colour and have it splashed about your space, yellow is going to flourish in a triadic scheme with red and blue, as well an extended colour scheme with blue and green tones.

Bumble bee beware!

If you’re sporting a monochromatic scheme that sports dramatic black and white tones, be careful with your yellow accents. Too much or too vibrant a colour is going to make it a bumble bee crime against decor. You might want to bring in some blonde timber to ground the scheme in this case.

So what are your thoughts on yellow? It’s kind of hard to avoid at the moment as most major chains are stocking it. As I mentioned, I have found it to be a really nice addition to most colour palettes, but I understand it’s not for everyone.

Drop me a comment below and let me know your thoughts.
