furniture fix: how to dress a brown sofa

LIFE_OXFORD_VAMP_MOLLY_R300

A friend of mine recently told me she was at a loss when it came to decorating around her brown leather sofa. She had tried adding turquoise accessories but admitted that it felt a little expected (I have to agree with her there). Here are a few ideas to ensure your brown couch – be it leather or upholstered – is used successfully in your space and plays well with your other pieces.

my ikea winter living room makeover

P1130004

When the team at IKEA contacted me to take part in their blogger challenge – where you’re given $200 to add some winter warmth to your space – it was less of a challenge and more of an all-stops train to Blissville. I’ve been an IKEA addict since birth (my first word was Karlskrona), so adding more of their wares to my existing collection was a glorious experience indeed.

french antiques in sydney? i’m there!

VT10297-01_M

I’m not afraid to admit that I love a French antique. There is something so wonderfully character-filled about these old finds that just captures my interest. I love a piece with a sense of story too, so when I cast my eyes upon the Contemporary Collection of furniture available at The Country Trader in Waterloo, I had to get the swoon police on speed dial.

achieve a coastal vibe – no sand required!

Achieving a coastal vibe is all about the right tone and texture

I have to be honest with you, Creatives; I have been into homes where I have seen things I cannot un-see. You know, sand in bottles, shells in jars, Gone Fishin’ signs; all of the things that people thought you needed to create a coastal vibe. Thankfully, design therapy has taught me that you don’t have to be so literal with your decor. If you’re looking to channel a coastal vibe, it’s simply a matter of using tone and texture – with a little accessorising – no sand in sight!

industrial dreaming with retrojan releases

The Crosby Vintage Dining Chair is to die for.

It should come as no surprise by now that I would sell my grandmother for a piece of industrial furniture (ok, not really, Gran; but you better play your cards right from here on in!). So when I came across some of these industrial pieces from Retrojan, I had to sit my partner down to break the news that all of our current furniture was being sold on eBay to make way for these bad boys.

true story: beige doesn’t have to be boring

Cable_knit_winter_story_tif_85954

I’ve been known to declare my aversion to beige from time to time, but truth be told it can work wonders in keeping a space understated, clean and calm. If you have a somewhat neutral space but fear you’re about to enter a micro-sleep at any given moment, there are a few ways you can keep the beige without an all-stops train to Snoozeville. It’s all about tone and texture, Creatives!

which-are-you-wednesday: armchairs

There’s something wonderfully indulgent about an armchair. I think it’s mostly because it’s made for one person; a real opportunity to have some you time and claim some real estate that nobody else can invade. Whether you curl up with a book, a wine or a cat (or like me, all three!), an armchair is a home essential. But what’s your style? Cast your vote in this week’s Which-are-you-Wednesday: Armchairs!

ABOVE: This Bold Chevron armchair makes a real statement thanks to its use of contrasting black and white colours. The backrest buttoning gives it an added bit of interest, too. Stockist: Oz Design.

colour power couple: purple and yellow

LIFE_COCO_MYSTERE_CROP_R300

I’m not quite sure what the colours purple and yellow would be called if they were a Hollywood power couple (Yurple?), but I do know this: they are, undoubtedly, a tonal match made in heaven. And it’s not even my love of bold colours speaking, Creatives, it’s a fact!

i refurbed a second-hand stool

IMG_3063P1080385

Turning this $15 stool that i found at Vinnies into a cute piece for my place was easier than I thought it would be. And surprisingly, it was pretty cheap too. I’m absolutely in love with this stool now (should there be a fire this might be the first thing I take). And the best part, when I get sick of the fabric on top it’s a cinch to change up! Check out how it all came together…

a look at my new industrial coffee table

Industrial Coffee Table with Lanterns
When it comes to home decorating, I’ve always been a little obsessed with two elements; industrial and colour. So when I stumbled across a piece of furniture that ticked both boxes, well, nobody could really stand in the way of fate!
