fun in the sun at the freedom summer launch

I must say, getting a sneak peak at my favourite things in the world (that’s homewares) really is one of the major perks of being a blogger. When Freedom invited me to take a look at their soon-to-be-released tableware range on Wednesday, it was on like Donkey Kong! Not only did I get to see some of their stunning new pieces, but I also got a look-in on their Christmas wares as well. It was all rather dreamy!

1 |¬†Etsy is like that rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland; it’s a whole world of amazing that I don’t want to come back from. I came across the wondrous Camp Koodle this week and had this frame made for me by founder and creative Katie Koodle. It was a gift for my Mother-in-Law and it was very well received indeed. Contact Katie and have your own made up or take a look at her other marvellous creations over in her store.

1 | I had my socks rocked off this week when I got my hands on this amazing trio of concrete candle holders from Melbourne company Sarai Homewares. Available in a range of colours – including neon – these three holders are made and set in recycled moulds, which is all rather environmentally friendly! The company also stocks my other love – cushions – and more!

Screen Shot 2013-08-01 at 3.44.47 PM

Nothing gave me greater pleasure this past week than receiving a sneak peek into the upcoming 2014 IKEA catalogue. Not only are there some glorious new products on the horizon and a real focus on spending time at home with loved ones, but there’s two hot trends that caught my eye in particular – and they’re very different decor looks indeed!

how to achieve a hamptons inspired home

federall1

I first came to appreciate the subdued sophistication of a Hamptons-inspired interior when I tuned into The Real Housewives of New York City five seasons ago (don’t judge me!) and saw those wealthy women at their holiday houses. The laidback look of this home decor style really appeals to me, along with the crisp and clean feeling it embodies. So, how does one achieve the look? Let’s explore it shall we?

adding some colour to my sandwiches

P1120661

Working in an office has given me great insight into what one should never bring into work for lunch. Parmesan cheese is something best left to enjoy at home, for example. A sandwich on the other hand, you can never go wrong with (ok, unless it’s curried egg. Again, best left for a special night in… alone).

the amazing abstract art of carolyn o’neill

unnamed

A beginner painting course in 2003 unlocked something in Bendigo-born artist Carolyn O’Neill, leading her to leave behind her career as a psychiatric nurse. “My past occupation has made me more aware of human emotions and the fragility of the mind, including my own,” she says. I don’t know about you, but I think a story this interesting needs exploring. And explore it I did, when I spoke with the artist – who now calls Hamilton home.

achieve a coastal vibe – no sand required!

Achieving a coastal vibe is all about the right tone and texture

I have to be honest with you, Creatives; I have been into homes where I have seen things I cannot un-see. You know, sand in bottles, shells in jars, Gone Fishin’ signs; all of the things that people thought you needed to create a coastal vibe. Thankfully, design therapy has taught me that you don’t have to be so literal with your decor. If you’re looking to channel a coastal vibe, it’s simply a matter of using tone and texture – with a little¬†accessorising – no sand in sight!

decorator dreaming at orson & blake

P1120414

I received some news over the weekend that delighted me to no end. My new fave store – Orson & Blake – is staying at the Supa Centa in Moore Park! I have been in and out of the store a few times since it landed a couple of months ago and this time around I took my camera to snap their unique wares. It’s tribal, it’s eclectic and it evokes a lovely sense of relaxed luxury; everything a homeswares lover could ever want!

1 | I didn’t think tealight candles could get any prettier in giving a room some atmosphere until I cast my eyes on this gang of six from the masterminds at The Tealight Co (the Black Snowflake is my fave). These soy wax candles – available via Superking Australia – use rice paper washi tape and are all about embracing colour and light. I’m sold; I’ll take 650 in each colour thanks!
