things i’ve learnt about blogger jen bishop

At last year's Belle Awards

Take it from me – blogging is not for the faint hearted. There’s the pressure of posts, anxiety over images and stress over social media, not to mention the worry over readership. But blogger extraordinaire Jen Bishop seems to take it all in her stride, having successfully carved out a career as an interiors blogger and founder of The Interiors Addict; one of Australia’s leading home and lifestyle blogs. I caught up with this inspiring gal to get the full story on life as an interiors addict.

why you’re going to love *bespoke* magazine

issue9-bespoke-1-coverhr

This week I got the opportunity to fall in love with a new magazine; one that blends arts, crafts, creative people, places and more. Sounds a little bit like The Life Creative, don’t you think? Perhaps this is why I’m so smitten with *bespoke*. For its ninth issue, new editors Robyn and Elle redirected the mag’s focus slightly to include only Australian and NZ creatives and their handmade products. Supporting local creatives – what could be better? This issue is full of inspiration and a few gorgeous surprises. On with the preview!

industrial dream in the clock hotel’s new courtyard

P1100615

It’s safe to say I’ve been going to The Clock Hotel for many years. In fact, my partner and I had our second date there (cue the dreamy, romantic music), so it’s more than cemented itself as one of Surry Hills’ definitive go-to destinations for not only myself but my circle, too. For a long time, locals knew that an arvo at The Clock was all about the upstairs balcony. But hold the phones, creatives, because the downstairs area has had a major revamp and it’s an industrial dream I never want to leave (what balcony?!).

rustic charm at the norfolk surry hills

P1100218

Confession time: I’ve lived in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney for well over six years and prior to last weekend I had not been to The Norfolk. Even after its killer makeover in December 2010 (I know, cuff me and throw away the key). Plenty of people had told me how much I would love the beer garden there – and after sitting in it for a few hours recently, they weren’t wrong. It’s laid-back, mismatched retro vibe is right up my alley (as are the cocktails)!

the antique magic at the bronte tram

P1090235

It’s not often I wish for a red light when driving, but every time I go past The Bronte Tram I pray to the homewares gods to give me the red! When I’m lucky enough, they answer my call and I get to sit there long enough to take in the beauty that is this amazing antique, homewares and collectables store. This time around I parked the car, braced myself for oncoming heart palpitations and went on in – camera in hand.

break the rules and colour clash

Freedom Furniture Coloured Owl and VasesHomewares mags and sites the world over are always stressing the importance of mixing colours correctly when it comes to home decor. But sometimes you just have to abandon the colour wheel and break a few rules! It’s time to embrace a rainbow of hues; let’s colour clash!

get adventurous and decorate with red

Red Floral Aura BedspreadIt took me a long, long time to warm to decorating with red in the home. For me, it was a little too severe and not at all calm. But as I adopted a more relaxed approach to my home decor (and stopped trying to theme my rooms), I found that red ended up working with many other colours.
