top notch textiles from a local creative

Screen Shot 2013-08-19 at 3.41.57 PM

I do love me a soft furnishing (guilty as charged), so I was rather delighted when I discovered local Creative Shakira Lima during my online travels. Her store, Shakiraaz – a celebration of handcrafted and Indian-inspired gems – was established in 2011 after she spent a few years prior developing and creating products out of her Melbourne home.

this week’s top seven creative finds

P1130277

1 | I love a local set of Creatives making some uniquely Aussie products and the team from Kitchen Ink have not disappointed this week. Get a load of my brand new Mr & Mr pillow case set in all its black and white glory. It’s playing particularly well with my polka dot bedspread and you’ll notice little Oswald there having the time of this life too. They’re also available in Mrs & Mrs and Mr and Mrs sets – too good!

review: abigail ahern’s decorating with style

P1120941

Alert the presses, Creatives; I have been converted! Once a lover of all things light and bright in interiors (you know, sunshine and lollipops, a place where it’s always spring), this release from style maven Abigail Ahern has given me a wondrous appreciate of interiors with mood. The pictures within this release are somewhat dark, very alluring and quite unlike anything I’ve  laid eyes upon in an interiors book (and you know I have many).

One of the most exciting things about my design course at the International School of Colour and Design is knowing that I get to design a rug toward the end of the year. The winning design from the course, would you believe, actually gets their rug produced by Designer Rugs! I sat down with the recent winner from the Cert IV course, Wahroonga mum Tina Murray-Walker, to discuss the design process, her time in the course and what doors have opened for her since winning.

a chat with stationery goddess jayde leeder

Screen Shot 2013-06-29 at 8.57.59 PM

Jayde Leeder is one busy gal. Not only is she a mother to two little ones (six-year-old Iggy and 14-month-old Minty – who Jayde tells me suffers from FOMO and thinks she’s 27), but she co-owns my fave store for all things stationery, Little Paper Lane, in the Sydney suburb of Mona Vale. I sat down with the former makeup artist and learnt a few things about stationery, running a family business and her hatred of tomatoes!

a chat with interiors legend shaynna blaze

Shaynna-Blaze-Blank-Canvas

I first developed my crush on Shaynna Blaze way back on season one of Selling Houses Australia. What’s not to love about an Aussie who shares achievable design tips while transforming rooms for needy home owners (and often lending them a shoulder to cry on when they don’t want to hide their soft toy collection)? I was delighted that this gal-on-the-go, who most recently added The Block to her CV, took five to answer my questions on everything from life before TV, being a role model and writing her first book.

you must check out the nest pop up shop

Pop Up Shop Newsletter Image
I love a pop up shop because it’s like one of those summer flings you have; everything about it is good and then he moves away before you realise he actually fancied your best friend. Ok, I have never actually had that happen – I saw it in a movie once. But the point is, pop up shops are glorious because they’re a short burst of sunshine where you can grab some breathtaking pieces you won’t see everywhere. Case in point: this weekend’s Nest pop up shop! I’m all over it!

this week’s top seven creative finds

1 | I was smiling from ear to ear when my glorious business cards arrived this week courtesy of the graphic design genius Amber Stapff at Sprowt Graphic Design. The entire process was seamless. Amber really understood the vibe of the blog and incorporated all the key elements I was after; the black circle, the chevron, my lowercase tlc and the colours I was looking for. I am absolutely in love with them. What do you think?

temple & webster style workshop at iscd

P1120560

It’s safe to say that nothing will keep me away from my love of styling. When I was offered the chance to attend the Temple & Webster styling workshop at the International School of Colour and Design on Saturday, not even the wet and wild Sydney weather could hold me back. Not only did I walk away with the tools to complete my living room look, but I got to meet Temple & Webster superstar (and my personal interiors icons) Karen McCartney. Cue the crazy fan moment!
