which-are-you-wednesday: mugs

I’ve gone through more mugs than I have underwear over the years, because stores continue to churn them out at lightening speed. I think a mug says a lot about who are you. I was using a Bold and the Beautiful mug at work for a while. I hope everyone understood the irony. It was five dollars from Coles, so it seemed foolish not to grab it. But I digress. Onto this week’s which-are-you-Wednesday: mugs!

ABOVE: The Global Colour mug has a distinctive Bollywood feel. Bright, bold and anything but boring, they add a sense of adventure to you sip! (Stockist: The Aparttment).

the versatility of monochrome decor

P1100002

I am a colour fiend – I can’t help it. But if it’s one thing I wish I had the restraint to do, it’s work a monochrome colour palette in my home. I see black and white furniture, crockery, soft furnishings and more in stores and my heart flutters a little. There’s something so simplistic about this theme. Here’s a little inspiration from my time spent swooning toward these colours.

form, function and fun at freedom

P1110227

Freedom and I have had a long friendship. I recall saving up across several paycheques as an 18 year old and going to Freedom to get my first real bedroom setting; an amazing bed, tallboy and two bedside tables combination. Years on (I won’t divulge exactly how many) I still gravitate toward this homewares haven for the very same reasons I did back then; phenomenal furniture with form, function and fun. On with the store tour…

simplicity and sophistication at country road

P1110115

It takes quite a store to lure me away from using bright colours in my home. But only moments into my snap-filled store tour of Country Road in Bondi Junction, I felt compelled to call my partner, tell him the skip was pulling up outside at any given moment and prepare him for yet another complete home overhaul. You know, a  leave nothing behind scenario. This is what I call the CRE (Country Road effect) – and boy had I been struck down with it.

1 | I lost my mind strolling through Opus Design Co in Paddington and I am not certain I have it back yet. The front window of this store was breathtaking on its own. This ottoman, in all its coloured glory, is the things dreams are made of (if only I didn’t have cats who would take joy in removing every single ball). I love the colour clash that’s going on with this piece – it just works. Continue reading

creative finds | this easter weekend’s top seven

Now I’m never one to complain about a four day weekend, but I was gutted to discover that so many homewares stores were closed (first world problem!). Not that it slowed me down entirely; I just packed a lot into the two days the stores were trading and got to a few bars in-between (all for research, you see).

1 | The Clock Hotel just underwent a killer renovation and I had to go to scope out the new-and-improved decor (it had nothing to do with wanting a wine!). These mind-blowing orange and teal industrial stools – clustered together to make a faux table – were just too good and reminded me of my industrial coffee table. I have an entire tour of the hot and happening new Clock coming up this week!

1 | My love affair for Adairs just keeps getting stronger – and these deer cushions confirm it; I love them, I want to marry them, I want to go for long walks on the beach with them. There’s a whole range of bedding featuring these deers, fittingly named the Birch Forest collection. Fact: they’re kind of a must for Autumn (and better still, there’s a Facebook competition running at the moment where you can win a set).

1 | This week I have been stressing over how to decorate my new office / blog area / craft corner. These are the big issues that keep me up at night! I was wandering around Typo and spotted these metal crates; they’re mini and marvellous and gave me a good starting point for the rest of the decorating process. The office pics will be up soon but the colour combo in the pic above gives you a nice preview!

Duo Love Bird Keyring Holders

1 | There’s nothing better for a creative than when someone buys you something you actually like (it’s rare, right?) and when my mother got me these duo bird keyring holders, she was on the money! They double as a whistle too, which is random, but at least I have something to attempt to train the cats with.

get adventurous and decorate with red

Red Floral Aura BedspreadIt took me a long, long time to warm to decorating with red in the home. For me, it was a little too severe and not at all calm. But as I adopted a more relaxed approach to my home decor (and stopped trying to theme my rooms), I found that red ended up working with many other colours.
