a squiz at the september issue of inside out

Screen Shot 2013-08-06 at 7.47.28 PM

My obsession with clocks was taken to new heights when issue 106 of Inside Out Magazine hit my mailbox this week (you really need to get a subscription!). The styling from Jessica Hanson and photography by Amanda Prior in the shot above is a clear standout from the September issue. The hard part? Choosing which clock is my fave! And on a side note, how cool is that wall pattern?

this week’s top seven creative finds

P1130156

1 | It was Mumma Creatives 60th birthday on Saturday, so I pulled my craft box out (yes, I am a 31 year old man with a craft box!) and made some personalised gift tags using paint card samples from Bunnings. I love using these cards because the range of colours is just amazing. With the help of a balloon-shaped hole punch I got from Lincraft, I made my own little gift tags that are very one-of-a-kind. What do you think?

become a part of the life creative’s real rooms

p1070428

The very reason I started this blog was to connect like-minded creatives and showcase amazing spaces – not just the high end ones you see in the magazines (because let’s face it; nobody lives in the magazines). With this in mind, I present a glorious new initiative that you can get involved in, that’ll show the world the breathtaking nooks and crannies of your home in all their styled glory. I call it ‘Real Rooms’ – and here’s how you can get involved!

have you been to the new lakota trading?

as_lakota_trading_CM12

Is it possible to fall in love with a photograph? Because these ones of the brand new Lakota Trading in Kensington – snapped by the amazing Cath Muscat – are making my heart skip a beat. In case you’re out of the loop on exactly what Lakota Trading is – brace yourself. It is, without a doubt, one of the best used furniture emporiums Sydney has to offer. And thanks to a change in ownership, it has a new lease of life and its vintage charm is going to take the city by storm!

Sometimes dreams really do come true. The new issue of Inside Out – available now – proved it by including me as one of its Six Blogs to Bookmark. That is, of course, not the only phenomenal thing about this issue, but it certainly helped raise my excitement levels when I got home to rip open my subscription and flick to page 42 to see The Life Creative mentioned!

why you’re going to love *bespoke* magazine

issue9-bespoke-1-coverhr

This week I got the opportunity to fall in love with a new magazine; one that blends arts, crafts, creative people, places and more. Sounds a little bit like The Life Creative, don’t you think? Perhaps this is why I’m so smitten with *bespoke*. For its ninth issue, new editors Robyn and Elle redirected the mag’s focus slightly to include only Australian and NZ creatives and their handmade products. Supporting local creatives – what could be better? This issue is full of inspiration and a few gorgeous surprises. On with the preview!

creative finds | this week’s top seven

As my usual Sunday evening/Monday morning creative finds post was late (I was making cushions!), I’ve packed seven glorious finds into this weeks finds post; it’s 100% fat free so you can enjoy without any guilt.

1 | I’m about as fond of beige as I am of Chardonnay, so these pops of colour in cushion form from the amazing Missoni Home are what every couch craving a bright splash needs. I spotted this family in Myer in the Sydney CBD and love the pink and blue pops.

things i’ve learnt about stylist mason browne

7thwonder 4

Sydney stylist Mason Browne is the ultimate slashie; with a career that spans 14 years in the entertainment and hospitality industries, the self confessed Instagram addict and now-stylist – among other roles in writing and production design – has certainly had his finger in many pies. Drawing inspiration from just about everywhere, he finds solace in books when he’s in a rutt. “There is nothing better… just grab a heap of really heavy art, design, fashion and photography books, camp out and just absorb the imagery”. Here’s a few more things I learnt about this man about town.

a chat with fashion designer nermin salih

Nermin Salih Sketching with Fabrics

Sydney based fashion designer Nermin Salih knows what she likes and what she doesn’t. A lover of photography (and clothing, of course), the 29 year old founder of Nermin Designs isn’t a fan of galactic inspired fashion. “I just think it’s very unattractive, thats all i can really say on it”. I sat down with this up-and-comer to learn more about her life creative.
