mind blowing moments in parterre, woollahra

I don’t quite know how to describe Parterre other than to say it’s quite magical and enchanting. I’ve driven past it a few times and also been into the store on the odd occasion and am constantly blown away by how gloriously French-inspired their world is. Set over two levels with a majestic outdoor space, this Woollahra wonderland is a must-see for locals who love quality, old-world wares. And for those of you who aren’t in Sydney, take a virtual tour here!

an easy way to revamp your indoor plants

20133_deco05a_01

I’ve always been a bit hesitant to introduce indoor plants into my living space. In the past, they’ve reminded me of a doctor’s surgery or corporate office of the ’90s. I don’t know about you, but the thought of indoor pots with moss spilling out over them makes me cringe uncontrolably. Thankfully, I spotted this glorious solution to totally revamp the concept of greenery indoors – and all it takes is a few decorative wicker baskets.

a chat with tv garden guru charlie albone

TLC_SH6_Charlie_3642_FXTL_TarshaHosking2013-1

The foolproof recipe for a successful home makeover show requires one part host, one part interior designer and one part guru for all things garden. Landscaper Charlie Albone is the latter in this equation. His expertise in the outdoor arena are unparalleled, and contrary to what a lot of us think when it comes to these shows, Charlie actually does the hard work. I caught up with him to discuss all things Selling Houses Australia, being a dad and life outside of the show.

tips for getting your herb garden going

DSC_4552

Now it’s no secret that I’m a tad garden challenged. I do love to buy plants for my courtyard, but I seldom seem to be able to keep them alive. I am tinkering with the idea, though, of a herb garden this winter. Naturally, I turned to foodie, blogger extraordinaire and more importantly – skilled gardner – Melanie from The Adventures of Miss Piggy, to give me some tips on how to get my herb garden going.

snapping the beauty at terrace outdoor living

P1110376

I first came across Terrace Outdoor Living courtesy of their pop-up store at the Supa Centre Moore Park. I was a little saddened to hear they were closing down until I realised their flagship store in Woollahra housed everything that their pop-up store did – and then some! I took to this Eastern Suburbs haven for all this green and outdoors and snapped my fave pieces!

industrial dream in the clock hotel’s new courtyard

P1100615

It’s safe to say I’ve been going to The Clock Hotel for many years. In fact, my partner and I had our second date there (cue the dreamy, romantic music), so it’s more than cemented itself as one of Surry Hills’ definitive go-to destinations for not only myself but my circle, too. For a long time, locals knew that an arvo at The Clock was all about the upstairs balcony. But hold the phones, creatives, because the downstairs area has had a major revamp and it’s an industrial dream I never want to leave (what balcony?!).

greenery, gold and giggles at garden life redfern

P1100545

I’ve always thought that the garden should be a little out of control, a bit untamed, a tad random and not too thought-out. I had never considered though – until my trip to Garden Life in Redfern – that it could also be a place for humour and fun. Needless to say, after hitting this Cleveland Street haven and eyeing off their wares, I am well and truly eager to make the garden a giggle-fest!

rustic charm at the norfolk surry hills

P1100218

Confession time: I’ve lived in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney for well over six years and prior to last weekend I had not been to The Norfolk. Even after its killer makeover in December 2010 (I know, cuff me and throw away the key). Plenty of people had told me how much I would love the beer garden there – and after sitting in it for a few hours recently, they weren’t wrong. It’s laid-back, mismatched retro vibe is right up my alley (as are the cocktails)!

decorator heaven at oz design moore park

P1090953

Where does one start when it comes to describing Oz Design? While it’s been around as long as I have (30 years and still doesn’t look a day over 25!), in recent times it’s multiplied its amazement factor. When I walked into the Moore Park store for my exclusive tour, I almost needed the store manager, Joe, to slap me across the face to wake me out of my design-induced coma; the current range is that phenomenal.

a garden oasis at the grounds of alexandria

P1100117

Every time I drive to IKEA (which you’d know by now is quite often) I go past The Grounds of Alexandria; masses of cars are desperate to park around this newly established haven and it’s always swarming with people. Finally, at the weekend, I secured my parking spot and wandered in to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know: it’s heaven.
