decorator dreaming at orson & blake

P1120414

I received some news over the weekend that delighted me to no end. My new fave store – Orson & Blake – is staying at the Supa Centa in Moore Park! I have been in and out of the store a few times since it landed a couple of months ago and this time around I took my camera to snap their unique wares. It’s tribal, it’s eclectic and it evokes a lovely sense of relaxed luxury; everything a homeswares lover could ever want!

form, function and fun at freedom

P1110227

Freedom and I have had a long friendship. I recall saving up across several paycheques as an 18 year old and going to Freedom to get my first real bedroom setting; an amazing bed, tallboy and two bedside tables combination. Years on (I won’t divulge exactly how many) I still gravitate toward this homewares haven for the very same reasons I did back then; phenomenal furniture with form, function and fun. On with the store tour…

tips and tricks for second hand shopping

P1110303

I’ve said it before; you’re either into refurbing furniture or you find the concept of taking someone else’s castoffs and making them your own downright creepy. I happen to be in the former category and I’m in good company; stylists everywhere are getting into the notion of upcycling pieces for interior design purposes. a rainbow of colour at opus design co, paddington

P1100909

You know you’re a home decor addict when your friends send you pictures of the inside of homewares stores, saying “you have to check out this place”. It’s like a decorative rainbow exploded, in the most awe-inspiring way possible!

simplicity and sophistication at country road

P1110115

It takes quite a store to lure me away from using bright colours in my home. But only moments into my snap-filled store tour of Country Road in Bondi Junction, I felt compelled to call my partner, tell him the skip was pulling up outside at any given moment and prepare him for yet another complete home overhaul. You know, a  leave nothing behind scenario. This is what I call the CRE (Country Road effect) – and boy had I been struck down with it.

creative finds | this weekend’s top six

While the people of Sydney were going gaga over Mardi Gras this weekend, I was – predictable – caught up in my very own parade, across  local homewares stores!

1 | Granted, I’m not huge on orange, but there’s something kinda breathtaking about these awesome mine and yours Home Republic text pillow covers from Adairs; the clouds, the chevron back pillows, the pop of aqua. It’s the most playful bed I’ve seen in a while and I’m big enough to admit that I want to burn my current bedspread so I have a valid reason to get this one.

get adventurous and decorate with red

Red Floral Aura BedspreadIt took me a long, long time to warm to decorating with red in the home. For me, it was a little too severe and not at all calm. But as I adopted a more relaxed approach to my home decor (and stopped trying to theme my rooms), I found that red ended up working with many other colours.
