have you been to the new lakota trading?

Is it possible to fall in love with a photograph? Because these ones of the brand new Lakota Trading in Kensington – snapped by the amazing Cath Muscat – are making my heart skip a beat. In case you’re out of the loop on exactly what Lakota Trading is – brace yourself. It is, without a doubt, one of the best used furniture emporiums Sydney has to offer. And thanks to a change in ownership, it has a new lease of life and its vintage charm is going to take the city by storm!

form, function and fun at freedom

P1110227

Freedom and I have had a long friendship. I recall saving up across several paycheques as an 18 year old and going to Freedom to get my first real bedroom setting; an amazing bed, tallboy and two bedside tables combination. Years on (I won’t¬†divulge¬†exactly how many) I still gravitate toward this homewares haven for the very same reasons I did back then; phenomenal furniture with form, function and fun. On with the store tour…

industrial dream in the clock hotel’s new courtyard

P1100615

It’s safe to say I’ve been going to The Clock Hotel for many years. In fact, my partner and I had our second date there (cue the dreamy, romantic music), so it’s more than cemented itself as one of Surry Hills’ definitive go-to destinations for not only myself but my circle, too. rustic charm at the norfolk surry hills

P1100218

Confession time: I’ve lived in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney for well over six years and prior to last weekend I had not been to The Norfolk. Even after its killer makeover in December 2010 (I know, cuff me and throw away the key). Plenty of people had told me how much I would love the beer garden there – and after sitting in it for a few hours recently, they weren’t wrong. It’s laid-back, mismatched retro vibe is right up my alley (as are the cocktails)!

a garden oasis at the grounds of alexandria

P1100117

Every time I drive to IKEA (which you’d know by now is quite often) I go past The Grounds of Alexandria; masses of cars are desperate to park around this newly established haven and it’s always swarming with people. Finally, at the weekend, I secured my parking spot and wandered in to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know: it’s heaven.

the antique magic at the bronte tram

P1090235

It’s not often I wish for a red light when driving, but every time I go past The Bronte Tram I pray to the homewares gods to give me the red! When I’m lucky enough, they answer my call and I get to sit there long enough to take in the beauty that is this amazing antique, homewares and collectables store. This time around I parked the car, braced myself for oncoming heart palpitations and went on in – camera in hand.
