this week’s top seven creative finds

1 | My class at iscd had to design Christmas cards for one of our assignments this week gone by and this was my submission. They’re meant to be cards for a corporate client, which I assume means there should be a more serious, less-fun tone to the design, but I still think this passes. I love the colours and the mosaic-inspired look I’ve gone for here – and it remains festive without being too OTT. What do you think?

1 | The new issue of Real Living magazine hit my mailbox this week and I have to admit that it’s probably my fave cover yet. My home is a huge mix of varying styles and colours, so I was rather relieved to see style clashing listed as a new trend (my homewares purchase anxiety has actually paid off!). I’m also a fan of a bright homeware, so this cover really spoke to that!

my interview with stylist mr jason grant

Screen Shot 2013-09-06 at 10.18.39 AM

It’s safe to say that Mr Jason Grant has played an integral part in Aussie styling for years. Having worked with the likes of Inside Out, Real Living, Freedom, Murobond and a host of other Aussie brands, he now adds author to his CV with his latest book release A Place Called Home. I caught up with this stylist extraordinaire to talk about his own home, his new paint range and how he rose to fame.

my fave pages from the august real living

P1120926

Issue 90 of Real Living hit my doorstep last week and I’ve been soaking up the interiors goodness for the past few days. This issue was a standout not only because it featured my one true love (industrial decor), but because it showcased some amazing homes that are a little left-of-field. I am swooning all over this issue like a bald eagle. That is, if bald eagles do indeed swoon. I imagine they do. How else do they get prey?

1 | I got invited for an exclusive store tour of Papaya in Mosman at the weekend and had a stunning time snapping their wares. What might surprise you is how many cute toys they have for kids (or big kids who love a playful home!). My fave creatures had to be these plush bunnies – hanging out in a basket by the Papaya courtyard. Store tour pics coming this week!

what’s your definitive magazine moment?

P1120638

If you love homewares like I do, you have a stack of magazines that you can’t bare to part with. You might also have a distinct memory associated with a particular magazine; one that sticks with you, that unlocked something in you or potentially resulted in what I call a ‘magazine moment’. I had mine with issue one of Real Living Magazine way back in 2005.

review: mr jason grant’s a place called home

P1110721

I was eagerly awaiting the launch of A Place Called Home by Sydney stylist Mr Jason Grant for quite a while – and for many reasons. Firstly, how refreshing to see a home decor book my a male! Secondly, I had seen the front cover of the book splashed over social media and it alone had spoken to me (I have that storage box, I love decorating with red and I adore using pegs to display photos!) Lastly, he’s uniquely Australian; what’s not to love about a local lad whose spent years working with popular magazines, now releasing a book that chronicles his favourite things?

1 | Mother’s Day has just been and gone and this year I was well prepared. I sourced this gorgeous little Rifle Paper Co card from the best place for books and stationery in Sydney – Pentimento in Newtown – along with the a few pressies from the area. I love the font and florals combination here and so did Mumma Creative, so it was a win-win all round!

i’m studying design at iscd

P1100168

For so long, I’ve been eager to become more than just someone who was utterly obsessed with interior design. Recently, while flicking through my Real Living magazine, I came across an advert for iscd (international school of colour + design). I took the first step toward my dream of becoming a fully-fledged stylist and shot them an email.
