For Nicole Elliott & Sarah Hargrave – the founders of design business Ginger Elliott – finding unique furniture pieces to upcycle is a giddy experience. “Quite often we turn heads, as we can’t contain ourselves with excitement,” they tell me. “The thrill of finding the piece starts the creative process”. And what a process it is. Just looking at some of their creations is giving me heart palpitations (in the best way possible!).

a lush high tea at thehome spring launch

Sometimes you see decor that makes your heart skip a beat (and leaves you wondering how far away the medics are should you need resuscitation). This scenario happened to me when I attended TheHome Spring Launch yesterday. The Gazebo Wine Garden was the venue for this afternoon high tea and the styling work from Marj Silva (below), Emma Blomfield and the team at TheHome was truly something spectacular.

industrial framing and furniture – I’m there!

Screen Shot 2013-08-11 at 11.00.41 AM

Perhaps it’s stating the obvious to admit that I’m a bit in love with rustic and industrial furniture. But to know that it’s crafted by a local family who’ve spent the past 20 years building it from its humble beginnings in a backyard shed into something spectacular, is altogether more warm and fuzzy! This is the story of Mulbury; an Aussie homewares and furniture business that not only makes breathtaking pieces, but does it with heart. this week’s top seven creative finds

Available in a range of colours – including neon – these three holders are made and set in recycled moulds, which is all rather environmentally friendly! The company also stocks my other love – cushions – and more!

snapping the beauty at terrace outdoor living

P1110376

I first came across Terrace Outdoor Living courtesy of their pop-up store at the Supa Centre Moore Park. I was a little saddened to hear they were closing down until I realised their flagship store in Woollahra housed everything that their pop-up store did – and then some! I took to this Eastern Suburbs haven for all this green and outdoors and snapped my fave pieces!

rustic charm at the norfolk surry hills

P1100218

Confession time: I’ve lived in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney for well over six years and prior to last weekend I had not been to The Norfolk. Even after its killer makeover in December 2010 (I know, cuff me and throw away the key). Plenty of people had told me how much I would love the beer garden there – and after sitting in it for a few hours recently, they weren’t wrong. It’s laid-back, mismatched retro vibe is right up my alley (as are the cocktails)!

a garden oasis at the grounds of alexandria

P1100117

Every time I drive to IKEA (which you’d know by now is quite often) I go past The Grounds of Alexandria; masses of cars are desperate to park around this newly established haven and it’s always swarming with people. Finally, at the weekend, I secured my parking spot and wandered in to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know: it’s heaven.
