furniture fix: how to dress a brown sofa

LIFE_OXFORD_VAMP_MOLLY_R300

A friend of mine recently told me she was at a loss when it came to decorating around her brown leather sofa. She had tried adding turquoise accessories but admitted that it felt a little expected (I have to agree with her there). Here are a few ideas to ensure your brown couch – be it leather or upholstered – is used successfully in your space and plays well with your other pieces.

hue how-to: break the rules and mix colour

Shot_5_tif_86518

Rules are such a snooze. You know, blue and green should never be seen and all that jazz. Sure, the colour wheel does dictate that certain hues are complimentary while others are not ideal together, but there are ways you can ignore these rules when it comes to home decor. It can all work wonderfully if you keep a few simple concepts (not rules) in mind. Let me get on my tutorial glasses for this educational experience.

review: 100 ways to happy chic your life

P1120960

If my mother told me tomorrow that I was adopted, I think I’d book a redeye flight to New York to declare myself Jonathan Adler‘s brother. We seem to share the same adoration of colour, a love of quirk, a fondness of humour and a partiality to a scatter cushion or seven. It’s in his latest release – 100 Ways to Happy Chic Your Life – he cements himself as my ultimate go-to guy for out-of-the-box home decor inspiration. So, we may not be brothers, but we are at the very least cut from the same cross-stitch!

real rooms: martine’s stunning outdoor room

outdoorroom4sm

Words seem to fail me when it comes to describing just how in love I am with this Northbridge home. The indoors come out, the outdoors go in; it’s a veritable hokey pokey of home design without putting your left leg in! There’s something so spectacular about this space; form and function come together marvellously. Yes, that’s where the magic starts for sure!

real rooms: lani kirpichnikov’s holiday home

home - Version 2

I half wanted to smile and half wanted to cry when I saw this photo hit my inbox. Smile because this Real Room from Lani Kirpichnikov is utterly, utterly stunning – and cry because I am so filled with jealousy right now (as I sit with my bar heater on) that I’m practically ready to release my own cologne,¬†TLC: Envy. Just look at this fiery phenomenon; it’s amazing!

review: abigail ahern’s decorating with style

P1120941

Alert the presses, Creatives; I have been converted! Once a lover of all things light and bright in interiors (you know, sunshine and lollipops, a place where it’s always spring), this release from style maven Abigail Ahern has given me a wondrous appreciate of interiors with mood. The pictures within this release are somewhat dark, very alluring and quite unlike anything I’ve ¬†laid eyes upon in an interiors book (and you know I have many).

my fave pages from the august real living

P1120926

Issue 90 of Real Living hit my doorstep last week and I’ve been soaking up the interiors goodness for the past few days. This issue was a standout not only because it featured my one true love (industrial decor), but because it showcased some amazing homes that are a little left-of-field. I am swooning all over this issue like a bald eagle. That is, if bald eagles do indeed swoon. I imagine they do. How else do they get prey?

become a part of the life creative’s real rooms

p1070428

The very reason I started this blog was to connect like-minded creatives and showcase amazing spaces – not just the high end ones you see in the magazines (because let’s face it; nobody lives in the magazines). With this in mind, I present a glorious new initiative that you can get involved in, that’ll show the world the breathtaking nooks and crannies of your home in all their styled glory. I call it ‘Real Rooms’ – and here’s how you can get involved!

a look at my new art nouveau prints

IMG_3083

In a creative finds post a month or so ago, I told you about my adventures on King Street in Newtown and the glorious art nouveau prints I scored from a street stall for just five bucks a pop. I finally put them up this at home week and they rather look glorious, if I do say so myself.
