vintage lovin’ at reclaim in newtown

P1130818

I’m a huge fan of vintage decor; I love that a piece has lived a life and has a story to tell. I had been eyeing off Reclaim in Newtown for some time for this very reason. Not only is it filled to the brim with homewares, fashion and stationery that I have seen nowhere else, but it also has the added bonus of being owned and operated by the glorious Monica Trapaga – jazz singer and Play School alumni! The store is a collection of her favourite things (and now some of mine, too!).

this week’s top seven creative finds

P1140297

1 | My class at iscd had to design Christmas cards for one of our assignments this week gone by and this was my submission. They’re meant to be cards for a corporate client, which I assume means there should be a more serious, less-fun tone to the design, but I still think this passes. I love the colours and the mosaic-inspired look I’ve gone for here – and it remains festive without being too OTT. What do you think?

a look at the new made by typo store

made by typo_0121

It’s no secret that I’m a bit obsessed with Typo; it’s the go-to store for all things affordable and on-trend in stationery and beyond. I was having kittens, then, when I saw these images of the new Made by Typo pop-up store in Geelong, which has just further fuelled my love for this crafty destination. I’m booking my flights down there immediately if not sooner (and I will be taking all of those pom poms home with me!).

the go-to store for brit-inspired homewares

Screen Shot 2013-09-24 at 8.31.20 AM

For as long as I can remember I have loved everything about Britain. And no, it has nothing to do with that Union Jack dress Ginger Spice wore at the Brits that time (though I’m sure it helped). There is just something so wonderfully charming about British decor. Founder of SE10 Gallery, Sam Cannell, clearly shares my fondness for all things UK, because she’s opened a gorgeous online homewares store that celebrates it!

i’m smitten with the kikki.K karneval collection

Screen Shot 2013-09-06 at 11.54.14 AM

Confession time: clowns scare the absolutely bejeezus outta me. Thankfully, this gorgeous circus-inspired range from kikki.K, called Karenval, is all fun and no face paint! It’s colourful and cute – and has landed just in time for Spring. As you can see from the shots in this post, it teams so well with florals and bright whites; it’s incredibly happy and not just for kids!

hangin’ with team typo at this week’s event

Screen Shot 2013-08-30 at 1.46.39 PM

When I attended this week’s Cotton On Open House event, Mother Nature was again in fine form – beaming down some glorious golden rays (she’s been in such a good mood lately!). And when I use the term ‘open house’ I actually mean it; the event took place inside and on the lawn of a glorious home in Point Piper. It was all rather amazing. Not only did I star spot Didier Cohen and papp the lovely Lara Bingle, but I immersed myself in a tonne of Typo goodness!

tlc at the east is east night markets

Screen Shot 2013-07-25 at 10.12.48 PM

I love to bag a bargain. And when there’s a local, handmade find in the mix, I’m like a kid in a candy store. This past Thursday night I hit my kind of lolly shop – the East is East Night Markets at the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst. What I uncovered on my adventure was a stack of local Creatives who’ve made some fabulous homewares and accessories (some of which you’ve seen on the blog before). On with my photo diary from this very fabulous evening!

this week’s top seven creative finds

P1130156

1 | It was Mumma Creatives 60th birthday on Saturday, so I pulled my craft box out (yes, I am a 31 year old man with a craft box!) and made some personalised gift tags using paint card samples from Bunnings. I love using these cards because the range of colours is just amazing. With the help of a balloon-shaped hole punch I got from Lincraft, I made my own little gift tags that are very one-of-a-kind. What do you think?

officeworks’ new martha stewart collection

P1130123

As a student at the International School of Colour and Design, it goes without saying that I’m at Officeworks as often as I am the coffee shop. What many of you might not realise, though, is that the store is more than just a place to pick up stationery supplies or print and copy documents. This new Martha Stewart range is the perfect example of how Officeworks is also your go-to destination for decorative storage. I’ve put my stylists skills to work on the new collection and here are the results!

inside the simply beautiful papaya, mosman

P1120803

When the team from Papaya invited me for an exclusive tour of their Mosman store last week, it’s safe to say I was a little beside myself. I’ve been a longtime fan of the brand, always rather fond of their contemporary designs and use of raw materials. When I stepped into the interior of this North Sydney oasis, it was like being transported into another universe, where I lost my mind in the best way possible and am not certain I have it back yet.
