I do love me a local store tour – you know that – but I am mindful of the fact that not all of you Creatives are in Sydney. So, lovers of an online shop – this one’s for you! With my colour obsession showing no signs of slowing down, I present six of my fave online finds for the home – all in high velocity hues. Some arty, some practical, but all definitely bright and beautiful.

this week’s top seven creative finds

IMG_4248

1 | I know, I know, my top find features garbage bins. But, those aside, how amazing is this Marilyn Monroe street art – complete with a set of pearly white vamp chompers? I spotted this graffiti in Kings Cross when I was on the way to TheHome Spring Launch this week and had to take a snap. Street art tends to divide people but I am definitely all for it when it’s done well.

get a load of these terracotta treasures

nicholas agency-1

There’s simply no denying the fact that I’m a bit obsessed with colour. Yes, I understand and have even posted about the fact that beige can be beautiful – and I fully appreciate the swoon-worthy qualities that a Scandi scheme possesses. But for me, dear Creatives, it’s all about a high-intensity hues. You can see why I was delighted to feast my eyes on these Terracotta Treasures then!

have you been to the new lakota trading?

as_lakota_trading_CM12

Is it possible to fall in love with a photograph? Because these ones of the brand new Lakota Trading in Kensington – snapped by the amazing Cath Muscat – are making my heart skip a beat. In case you’re out of the loop on exactly what Lakota Trading is – brace yourself. It is, without a doubt, one of the best used furniture emporiums Sydney has to offer. And thanks to a change in ownership, it has a new lease of life and its vintage charm is going to take the city by storm!

a flower phenomenon at garlands, surry hills

P1120137

I really am a bad Sydney-sider. I continue to write blog posts that start with a “I can’t believe this place has been under my nose the entire time” type vibe. It’s sad but it’s true, and it happened to me once again recently as I was strolling down Bourke Street in Surry Hills and saw the flora outside Garlands calling my name. I stopped for a moment, ensured my heart was still beating and high-tailed it in there – camera in hand, as always.

my low budget, low maintenance garden

P1100923

Plants are that demanding sometimes that I just lose interest in trying to keep them going all the time. Short of having a courtyard that resembles a cement museum, I had to find some low maintenance greenery to give my garden a low-budget pop. Half-an-hour in Flower Power was all it took to get these hardy babies a new home (and they’re still alive!). Total spend on plants and soil was around $60.

creative finds | this week’s top seven

P1100900

1 | I lost my mind strolling through Opus Design Co in Paddington and I am not certain I have it back yet. The front window of this store was breathtaking on its own. This ottoman, in all its coloured glory, is the things dreams are made of (if only I didn’t have cats who would take joy in removing every single ball). I love the colour clash that’s going on with this piece – it just works. Continue reading

greenery, gold and giggles at garden life redfern

P1100545

I’ve always thought that the garden should be a little out of control, a bit untamed, a tad random and not too thought-out. I had never considered though – until my trip to Garden Life in Redfern – that it could also be a place for humour and fun. Needless to say, after hitting this Cleveland Street haven and eyeing off their wares, I am well and truly eager to make the garden a giggle-fest!

the retro decor at darlo bar

P1090622

I don’t know what rock I’ve been living under the last few years, but I finally crawled out from underneath it and found my new favourite bar at the weekend – Darlo Bar in Darlinghurst, Sydney. It’s a retro lovers dream for all things old-school and has an amazing beer garden (hello upcoming birthday drinks!).
