1 | There were gasps at every turn on Thursday when I popped into Parterre in Woollahra for a wander about. This store is an absolute dreamboat, filled with ornate french homewares, furniture and of course, this glorious stone bird – which has only further fuelled my obsession with bird ornaments. A full store tour of this local wonderland is coming soon!

flower lovin’ at florals by silva
I was taken aback last week when I popped into The Grounds of Alexandria for a coffee and a wander about. I hadn’t realised that there was a florist there (or perhaps I had just been in when this section of the grounds was closed). Needless to say, it was a marvellous discovery and I whipped out my camera to capture some of the floral phenomenon at Florals by Silva.
hue how-to: break the rules and mix colour
Rules are such a snooze. You know, blue and green should never be seen and all that jazz. Sure, the colour wheel does dictate that certain hues are complimentary while others are not ideal together, but there are ways you can ignore these rules when it comes to home decor. It can all work wonderfully if you keep a few simple concepts (not rules) in mind. Let me get on my tutorial glasses for this educational experience.
review: 100 ways to happy chic your life
If my mother told me tomorrow that I was adopted, I think I’d book a redeye flight to New York to declare myself Jonathan Adler‘s brother. We seem to share the same adoration of colour, a love of quirk, a fondness of humour and a partiality to a scatter cushion or seven. It’s in his latest release – 100 Ways to Happy Chic Your Life – he cements himself as my ultimate go-to guy for out-of-the-box home decor inspiration. So, we may not be brothers, but we are at the very least cut from the same cross-stitch!
what goes into styling a photo shoot?
I’d always known that styling a photo shoot wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t until I hit Temple & Webster HQ a few weeks back and saw the team in action that I realised just how laborious it can be. I sat down with T&W’s Head of Styling, Jessica Bellef, to get the scoop on what she and Senior Stylist Adam Powell deal with daily when they’re putting together their glorious homewares shoots.
showcase your everyday items and mementos
I’ve never really understood homes that are styled within an inch of their lives and manage to say nothing about the people who live there. At TLC HQ, it’s all about personalisation, comfort and reflecting who I am and what’s happening in my life. In saying that, though, I do like things to have their place (and certain objects are not for the curious claws of the satanic sisters that are better know as my two cats). Enter this glorious find from Papaya!
get a load of these terracotta treasures
There’s simply no denying the fact that I’m a bit obsessed with colour. Yes, I understand and have even posted about the fact that beige can be beautiful – and I fully appreciate the swoon-worthy qualities that a Scandi scheme possesses. But for me, dear Creatives, it’s all about a high-intensity hues. You can see why I was delighted to feast my eyes on these Terracotta Treasures then!
my ikea winter living room makeover
When the team at IKEA contacted me to take part in their blogger challenge – where you’re given $200 to add some winter warmth to your space – it was less of a challenge and more of an all-stops train to Blissville. I’ve been an IKEA addict since birth (my first word was Karlskrona), so adding more of their wares to my existing collection was a glorious experience indeed.
how to achieve a hamptons inspired home
I first came to appreciate the subdued sophistication of a Hamptons-inspired interior when I tuned into The Real Housewives of New York City five seasons ago (don’t judge me!) and saw those wealthy women at their holiday houses. The laidback look of this home decor style really appeals to me, along with the crisp and clean feeling it embodies. So, how does one achieve the look? Let’s explore it shall we?
this week’s top seven creative finds
1 | You may call it a rusty old bird cage, but I call this beauty – that I snapped at Halchemy Design in Newtown – the things vintage dreams are made of. I absolutely adore this sort of vibe and would love to pop a few giant candles in this gem for a splash of old-world-meets-new. The little bird they’ve perched inside just caps off this piece wonderfully, as does the subtle blue tones that are peeking through the rust. Are you a fan?
