I dare you to open your latest homewares mag and find a spread – or even a page – that’s laden with purple. I’ve tried this and I can assure you it’s no easy task. It seems this misunderstood hue is often left behind when it comes to interior styling – and having spent time last week looking at colour psychology, purple’s omission from the mags has been playing on my mind. Today I’m paying homage to this hue and giving you a little inspiration to use it in your own home (and figuring out why it has been so neglected).

a look at the new made by typo store
It’s no secret that I’m a bit obsessed with Typo; it’s the go-to store for all things affordable and on-trend in stationery and beyond. I was having kittens, then, when I saw these images of the new Made by Typo pop-up store in Geelong, which has just further fuelled my love for this crafty destination. I’m booking my flights down there immediately if not sooner (and I will be taking all of those pom poms home with me!).
my morning at the designer rugs showroom
I’m nearing the end of my course at the International School of Colour and Design, which means my rug design project is almost due. In a nutshell, students in the course submit a rug design and the winner of the assignment actually gets their design produce by Designer Rugs. It’s a pretty exciting opportunity for us to be connected with an Aussie icon like this! Naturally, I had to hit the Edgecliff showroom for design inspiration and was lucky enough to speak to managing director Yosi Tal while I was there (score!).
fancy a nest designs decorating workshop?
You’ve heard me rave on before about how much I adore my sister from another mister, Emma Blomfield from Nest Designs (you can read my interview with her here). Well, now you can witness her interior design and styling genius when you attend one of her upcoming decorating workshops! They’re running in a number of locations across Australia and are sure to have you solving all your home decor dilemmas.
my interview with creatives ashdown & bee
I first discovered the work of Ashdown & Bee at the Freedom Summer Launch a few months back and was instantly drawn to their design aesthetic. Little did I know, bespoke signage for media events was just one of the services the Stanmore-based business offers; styling, event planning, visual merchandising and more are what this creative couple excels at. They were even kind enough to make me my very own TLC sign during the interview (cue the girly squeels!).
hanging out with temple & webster at better homes & gardens live
The weekend gone by was a busy one, but I managed to squeeze in a quick dash to Better Homes & Gardens Live to see my fave peeps from Temple & Webster. The T&W team have been great supporters of the blog from the moment it started, letting me pop to their HQ a few times to look-in on shoots and more. Needless to say, the T&W stand was by far the standout from the event.
inside the gorgeous ginger elliott open house
This Saturday morning just gone, I had the pleasure of attending the stunning Ginger Elliott Open House. Mother Nature was clearly on my side because she drenched the city of Sydney in sunlight, which made the entire experience all the more glorious. Not only did I get to ooh and ahh over the upcycled designer furniture and homewares on sale in the Balgowlah home, but I also got to meet the GE team, sip on bubbly (don’t mind if I do) and take part in a Styling with Flowers demonstration. It was all a bit dreamy!
my fave pages from issue 107 of inside out
Nothing gives me greater pleasure than dashing to the mailbox, seeing that my Inside Out mag has arrived and ripping open the plastic like Amanda would a man’s shirt on Melrose Place (wasn’t that the best 90s show ever?). This time around, there was even more excitement as the front cover revealed that copper was on the agenda for issue 107 – the ultimate metal of the moment! Let’s take a little squiz inside and drool my fave pages!
join me at the ginger elliott open house
This Friday and Saturday, Nicole and Sarah – the duo behind local business Ginger Elliott – will be showcasing their second collection of carefully curated vintage furniture and homewares for just two days. And the even better news; attend the Open House on Saturday and score a free Styling with Flowers demonstration with stylist Naomi Lee!
