As the creative director behind The Gentry – a design business that has undertaken a slew of well-known interiors projects – Kelly Ross also happens to be my teacher at the International School of Colour and Design. Having travelled for 13 years as a set, props and scenic creative for theatre, she’s had quite an artistic journey so far. I sat down for a chat with this Sydney-based Creative to find out more about her business, her role at iscd and what she considers to be her finest moment.

on the set of an inside out photo shoot
If it’s one thing I’ve learnt being on set during a photo shoot, it’s that a tonne of chaos takes place to capture even the smallest moment on film. A photo shoot at Inside Out magazine is no different. And if you thought snapping models presented its challenges, try working with a flowers that droop the day of the shoot! It’s all in a day’s work for stylist Vanessa Colyer Tay, who filled me in on creating this story for the September issue of Inside Out.
this week’s top seven creative finds
1 | I love a local set of Creatives making some uniquely Aussie products and the team from Kitchen Ink have not disappointed this week. Get a load of my brand new Mr & Mr pillow case set in all its black and white glory. It’s playing particularly well with my polka dot bedspread and you’ll notice little Oswald there having the time of this life too. They’re also available in Mrs & Mrs and Mr and Mrs sets – too good!
which-are-you-wednesday: bedding
I think bedding is one of those things you don’t fully appreciate the importance of until you sleep in something of quality. This happened to me recently when my parents purchased me a winter quilt. Good Lord it is magical. It inspired this week’s Which-are-you-Wednesday: Bedding! I actually have one of the below sets. Let’s see if you pick it as your fave!
a chat with tough love tv host andrew winter
Ever since Selling Houses Australia premiered in 2008 I have found Andrew Winter, the tough love host who isn’t backward in coming forward, to be the hilarious backbone of the show. While his real estate knowledge is unbeatable, I find his first impressions – where he tells home owners the truth about their property – to be the standout segments of the show. I caught up with the no-nonsense patriarch of the award-winning Lifestyle Channel series to discuss real estate, living in Australia and what really happens behind the scenes on SHA.
this week’s top seven creative finds
1 | It’s no secret that I pretty much need coffee drip-fed to me on a daily basis (is four coffees too many?), so when I spotted these amazing Lavazza A Modo Mio machines at Myer at the weekend I went a little batty with excitement. I’m in love with the colourful sheen on these bad boys and the blue and green shades have to be my favourite. Check out their website for the full colour range!
mother’s day markets at the grounds
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of The Grounds of Alexandria. I’ve shown you just how breathtaking this venue is before on my garden tour. So when I caught word that they were putting on Mother’s Day markets, well, it kicked my excitement levels into overdrive and of course, I had to check it out. From flowers to food to farm animals – it was all there – and I snapped it like a fiend for your viewing pleasure!
my top five market picks for a colourful kitchen
It’s no secret that I have a small aversion to a beige colour scheme. My kitchen lends itself to much the same aversion. If there’s one space you can splash out and be a little daring, it’s this room! So while things might be a little dreary outside this Autumn, get a little bright and happy with these market picks (and do let me know what you love).
